TEAM TENNIS DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

The Team Tennis Doubles Tournament starts on Friday 27th February and will run for 5 weeks. All Members intending to take part should enter their names on the Sheet in the Clubhouse. Closing date for entries is Monday 23rd February.

LADIES SINGLES COACHING

Tadgh will have Training Sessions for ladies who would like to improve their Singles Play on the following Saturday mornings at 10.30.

LADY CAPTAIN’S DINNER SATURDAY 28TH FEBRUARY

Thanks to all those who have signed up for the Dinner.  Ahead of the event could you now please arrange to pay for your ticket which is priced at €30.00. Payments (in an envelope with your name) can be left in the Club post box or may be given to any member of the Organising Committee;

Upcoming events:

  • Friday 19th December- The last of the Turkey competitions will take place on Friday night.  Winners last week were Maeve O’Connell + Fionnula Walsh.
  • Sunday 21st December - John Gibson will host Christmas Mulled Wine + Mince pies in the club house at 12.30, all are welcome.
  • Monday 22th  December - Mark’s group will be using 4 courts from 11am to 12.30
  • Tuesday 23rd  December - Club Social Tennis will be at 7.30pm

Reminder- A.G.M. is on tonight at 7.30 in the clubhouse. 

The list for the Christmas Party is now closed. The numbers have been confirmed with the caterer so anyone cancelling after this point must pay the €26.

Congrats to Zach Baird  who won the Leinster Under 12 Matchplay and is now through to the National finals.
 

1st December 2014

There will be a Social Tennis Tournament on Wednesday ,December 3rd. It starts at 10 a.m. and is sponsored by Maura O Neill.

The A.G.M. will take place on Wednesday 3rd at 7.30.

There will be Turkey tournaments running for the next 3 Fridays- 5th,12th and 19th.  Just turn up at 7.30 and John Gibson will organise the event

20th November 2014

The Harris/Coman  League has now reached the play-off stages and tomorrow night the top 4 teams play at 7.30 . They are competing for places in the final and the 3rd/4th place play-off. The remaining 4 teams play at 8.30 tomorrow. Friday, 28th will be the last night of the Tournament and all 8 teams will play again.

The A.G.M. will take place on Wednesday, December 3rd at 7.30. You will receive a written notification by post giving you the Minutes of last year's A.G.M. and the Agenda for this year .All Senior and Pavilion Members are entitled to attend.

The Christmas Party is on Saturday, December 6th. The list is up and is filling up so if you wish to attend please sign up. The Social Committee will be happy to collect the €26 in advance, at the Harris  League or on Tuesday nights etc.

13th November 2014

The A.G.M. will take place on Wednesday, December 3rd at 7.30. You will receive notification by post with the Minutes of last year's A.G.M. and the Agenda for this year. All Senior and Pavilion Members are entitled to attend.

The Christmas Party will be on Saturday,December 6th. The cost is €26 and the list will be up in the Clubhouse on Friday night. The Social Committee will need to confirm numbers with the caterer by the beginning of December. Further details from Liz. Quinn on 087 9344614.

All Members are asked to pay in advance. Members of the Social Committee will be on hand on Fridays at the Harris/Coman League, on Tuesday nights, mornings etc. Caroline Sweeney, Katherine Connaughton, Ursula Martin, Anne O Hanlon, Eileen Kenny, Mags Murray or Liz Quinn herself will collect the money. Failing that you could post a cheque into the postbox in the Hall-for the attention of the Social Committee. Please do not post cash.

The Harris/ Coman League continues this Friday with the last night of the Group stages. The League will run for a further two weeks and each team will still be involved. The League will end on Friday, November 28th
 

 

3rd November 2014

The Wednesday morning Social Tournament this week, 5th, is sponsored by Anne O Shea. It runs from 10 until 11.30. Please arrive early as the tournament will start promptly.
On Saturday,8th from 4.30 until 6.30 the courts will be in use for a "Stars and stripes" Junior event.
The Harris/Coman League continues on Friday and all courts will be in use from 7.

16th October 2014

The Harris/Coman League starts on Friday, October 31st and runs for 5 Fridays. This is a team event. Each team is made up of 3 Mixed  pairs . The pairings are graded and so compete against a similar standard of player. The sign up list are going up today and the closing date for entry is Wednesday 22nd. There is no entry fee. The Tennis Committee will select the teams and inform the captains of the rules around subs etc. Because the first night is actually Hallowe'en it was suggested that players might like to dress accordingly on the night !
The A.G.M.will be on Wednesday, November 26th. You will get written notification by post but I'm giving you the date now.
The Christmas Party will be on Saturday, December 6th. The Social Committee have made a huge effort to keep the cost down. This year's party will be more informal, buffet style to allow for greater circulation and will cost €26. The list will go up shortly,
 

13th October 2014

The Social tennis will go ahead on Monday, 20th from 10 until 11.30 because there is no Home match in the Charity League that day. The Wednesday social tennis continues until midterm. There will be no social tennis on Monday, 27th or Wednesday, 29th. On Wednesday November 5th there will be a tournament at 10 sponsored by Anne O Shea.
During midterm there will be a camp for Juniors. It will run from Tuesday 28th to Friday 31st from 10 until 1 on four courts.
Junior Matchplay continues this Saturday,18th from 12 until 4.


10th October 2014

The Seniors League has now ended. for Brookfield at least. Both Ladies teams lost their play-off matches last Sunday. Sunday morning tennis will resume this Sunday.
The Floodlight League continues on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
There will be Junior Matchplay matches on Saturday afternoon from 2 until 6. There will be courts available for play also.


1st October 2014 

There will be Matchplay practice for Juniors on Saturday from 12 until 2.30. There will also be "Stars and Stripes"games at 4.30 until 6.
On Sunday there are two play-offs at 2pm in Brookfield. Good luck to our Class 4 and Class 6 Ladies teams.

30th September 2014

Eileen Murray is running a Fundraiser for the Hospice. It is a cookery demonstration given by Rachel Allen in the Ballsbridge Hotel next Monday night, October 6th at 8pm. The cost is €25 and there are fabulous raffle prizes including a cookery course in Ballymaloe. Tickets are available from Eileen Murray.

Two of the Ladies teams have reached the play-off stages of the Senior League.
The 2nd team will play Ratoath at Home at 2 on Sunday while the 5th team will play away in Wicklow.

30th September 2014

There is a Tournament tomorrow morning,(Wednesday) from 10 until 11.30. It is sponsored by Annemarie Sheridan. Please arrive on time as play will commence at 10.

There is now a Brookfield Tennis jacket which, amongst other things, is water resistant and is now available in various different sizes. The jacket is blue in colour and costs €30. White jackets or white tennis attire are also available and may be fitted with the Brookfield logo at a cost of €4 extra per item. Prices of white jackets vary. Jackets may take a couple of days to be available once ordered depending on quantity

26th September 2014

This Sunday is the last group matches for the Seniors League. There is a strong possibility of a number of teams qualifying and so there will be league matches on Sunday, October 5th also. I'll keep you all updated if any of our teams progress further.

The Floodlight League starts next week. We have entered 3 Mens and 4 Ladies teams. The Mens Matches will be on Mondays and the Ladies on Tuesdays. All 6 courts will be in use next Tuesday until 9pm.

There will be a Coffee Morning in aid of the Hospice held in Brookfield on Thursday, September 18th from 10.30 until 12.30.Please support this worthy cause by either contributing cakes or coming along on the morning

Well done to all the winners and finalists in the Club "Handicaps" It was a most enjoyable fortnight of tennis. Thanks to Annemarie, Fionan and Ruth for all the work.

Next Friday, September 19th there is a fundraiser in the club. Alan Conway is hosting this to fund a Urology Unit for the National Rehab. Centre. There will be a list posted in the clubhouse so that intending players can sign up. All will be welcome on the night also so just turn up at 7.30. Alan is hoping for donations of at least €20.

Lost property. Any items not collected before September 30th will be given to a Charity shop.

11th September 2014

The "Handicaps" are drawing to a close and the finals will be played this weekend. 

  • Friday, September 12th at 7.30- Mixed Doubles and Mens Doubles Finals.
  • Saturday, September 13th from 2pm. Mens Singles and Ladies Singles followed by Ladies Doubles.
  • The prizegiving for all events will be at 5pm approx.

The B.B.Q. will take place on Friday evening from 8.30. The list is fairly full now and the Social Committee need to confirm numbers with the caterer so if you wish to be included please contact Liz Quinn on 0879344614.

There will be Afternoon Tea on Saturday at 4pm. There is a list in the clubhouse and you can indicate what you would like to bring. Alternatively just turn up with a contribution to the tea-Sandwiches, Scones ,Cakes, etc.,
 

5th September 2014

The morning social tennis will resume on Monday, September 8th from 10 until 11.30. The cost is €5 which includes Tea and Biscuits. There will be a Tournament on Wednesday morning, September 10th, from 10. Marie Malone is the sponsor.

The Club "Handicaps " enter the second week. Times and schedules for next week will be posted in the clubhouse and also on the website. Please ensure that you double check the time of your match  because Junior Coaching resumes next week and the "Handicap" matches are being arranged to match court availability.

The BBQ will take take place on Friday, September 12th. The cost is €18 and the list is up in the clubhouse.

On Friday, September 19th Alan Conway is running a Charity event in the club. This will be a fun tournament and is in aid of The National Rehabilitation Hospital.Alan is taking part in a cycle from Rome to Nice commencing onSeptember 6th. They hope to raise enough to purchase a diagnostic machine for the Urology department in the Hospital. There will be further details nearer the time,

26th August 2014

The Ladies Tennis is on Wednesday 27th August from 7.30 until 9. This is the last session. The Club "Handicaps" start next Monday, September 1st. The Draw and schedule will be posted up in the clubhouse today (Tuesday). Please check the schedule, arrive on time for your match and remember to wear correct Tennis attire and footwear. The Committee have requested that members make a special effort in this regard for the event.

The D.L.T.C. Seniors League starts on Sunday. The Mens matches are at 11am and the Ladies matches are at 2pm/3.30pm. A full list of Home Fixtures will be posted up. Best of luck to all players representing Brookfield in the League.

20th August 2014

The closing date for entries to the club "Handicaps" is Sunday, August 24th. Entry forms may be downloaded from the website. They are also available in the clubhouse. The "Handicaps" start on September 1st and run for 2 weeks.

The Finals of the Junior Championships will take place on Saturday followed by a late afternoon BBQ for parents and children.

On Sunday, August 24th Brookfield is hosting an Invitational Tournament for local clubs. All courts will be in use from 2pm to 6.30 on Sunday.

13th August 2014

The Junior Championships will take place next week from Monday,18th to Saturday,23rd. All courts will be in use until approximately 7pm. each evening.

The Club "Handicaps" (Seniors) will take place from Monday, September 1st until Saturday, September 13th. The closing date for entries is Sunday, August 24th. The entry form and rules of the competition will be posted on the website. Entry forms will also be available in the clubhouse.

20th June 2014

The Club Championships start on Monday and run for 2 weeks. All draws and schedules are now posted. Further details from Fionan Cronin, Annemarie Corcoran or Ruth Potterton.

On Friday, July 4th The Club President, Caroline Sweeney, will host a Drinks Reception at 7pm. There will also be a Barbecue and Social evening on that Friday. A list will go up early next week so that the Social Committee can determine numbers.

Hard Luck to the two league teams beaten in the play-off matches. Two teams now survive and play in Quarter finals tomorrow. If you fancy a trip to the sea our Ladies team plays in Portmarnock at 10am while our Mens team plays in Greystones at 2pm. Best of luck to both.

Social tennis will end on Monday, June 23rd and will recommence on Monday, September 8th and Wednesday, September 10th.

A large number of children will attend the Summer camp between 10.00 and 1.00 from Monday, June 30th until Friday, July 4th so courts will be busy during these times.

The Club Championships will run from Monday, June 23rd until Saturday, July 5th. All draws and schedules are now posted in the clubhouse. The schedule will be on the website also. Members should note that all courts will be in use for the championships from 7 each evening.

16th June 2014 - Ursula Martin

Four of our Summer League teams have reached the play-off stages. Two of the matches are at home and two away. The Ladies play at Home on Tuesday 17th and the Men play at Home on Wednesday, 18th. Club night will continue on Fridays. Good luck in the play-off matches.

13th June 2014 - Ursula Martin

Club night continues tonight and on Friday, 20th. The Section Matches in the Summer League are finished. Two of the Ladies teams have qualified for the play-off stages. The 2nd team will be away in Celbridge and the 3rd team will be at home both on Tuesday night. Best of luck to both teams and to our Mens teams in their last group matches this weekend.

There will be coaching for the Ladies League players on Saturday from 10 until 12. In addition we are facilitating Mount Pleasant with 2 courts on Saturday up to 2pm.

On Sunday the Junior Committee will hold a Parent/Child Tournament from 2 until 4.30.   Entries close today for the Club Championships.

6th June 2014 - Ursula Martin

There will be coaching for the League players (Ladies) on Saturday morning. 10.00 for Singles and 11.00 for Doubles.

The Pink Lunch takes place on Sunday. The list is now closed. Drinks at 12.30 and lunch at 1.15. All donations or raffle prizes gratefully accepted.

Club night continues tonight and will run on Fridays for 13th and 20th also.

30th May 2014 - Ursula Martin

There will no social tennis on Bank Holiday Monday. The June social tennis monthly tournament will take place on Wednesday,4th at 10.00am. Please be on time Social tennis will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays until Wednesday, June 18th.

Mens Team training continues on Thursday,June 5th from 7.30 until 9.30pm. Ladies team training  will be on Saturday ,June 7th from 10.00am until 12 pm.

Closing date for the Club Championships is Friday, June 13th.  Pink Lunch takes place on Sunday, June 8th at 12.30.

29th May 2014 - Ursula Martin

The Club Championships will run from Monday, June 23rd to Saturday, July 5th. The entry form can be downloaded from the club website and should be completed in manuscript, signed and posted in the club marking the envelope "entry". There is an entry fee of €10 and this should be enclosed with the entry form. The fee covers all 3 events,singles (including Plate), Doubles and Mixed. The name of partners for Doubles events should be entered on the form. If no partner is nominated a partner will be assigned by the Tournament Committee.

The Tournament Committee is made up of the Tennis Captains, Annemarie Corcoran and Fionan Cronin and the Tournament Referee, Ruth Potterton. The rules for the tournament will be posted up on the noticeboard and must be adhered to by each competitor as a condition of entry.

As the Championships will be run over 2 weeks the scheduling of matches will be tight and the rule that the competitors must be available to play their matches on or before the scheduled date and time will be strictly enforced by the Tournament Committee. Competitors should note that ,if they advance to the latter stages of 2 or 3 events they will be required to play 2 matches on  one or more nights.
